Healthier Choices: Water and Electrolyte Hydration Drink

Healthier Choices - Water and Electrolyte Hydration Drink

Water is considered as the most important beverage known to man. It is the origin of all the other beverages that we enjoy today. From tea, coffee, beer, and ale, water is necessary for these to exist. We may not be able to drink from the ocean, but we can get something from it as well.

Salt, the most important flavoring agent in human history. As we all have fluids in our bodies, we need it to continue living with our lives. We can’t even live after three days without water.

However, we have to reach a certain quota when it comes to drinking water. The belief that you need to drink 6 to 8 glasses a day in order to meet these needs is still rather popular.

There are a lot of studies that actually contradict this notion because it really depends on a lot of factors. For example, people who are living in hotter climates need to drink more H2O to combat dehydration and heatstroke.

On the other hand, you don’t need that much hydration in colder climates. In fact, people in cold countries such as Russia use alcohol as a way to replenish themselves. H2O freezes in their temperatures, so it’s either they take it hot or with alcohol in it. Learn more about this here.

Can your daily activities affect your hydration?

Another factor that affects our liquid consumption is the activities that we do for a certain period like a day. If you just sit in your office for the entire day then you don’t need that much water. If the office was air-conditioned, then your thirst would be even less.

You wouldn’t notice it because you were so busy, and you were not losing any amount of water from your body. However, it is a different matter once you are doing a rather heavy or fast-paced activity. Any kind of exercise falls under this category, and you will feel the thirst after doing all of it.

Whenever we do any kind of exercise, we tend to increase our own body temperature. However, if our body just lets it increases, then it can affect our physical health. It can lead to serious heart failure or even death.

To regulate our body temperature, we produce sweat to maintain that healthy balance. However, as we sweat, we also lose hydration.

This is due to the increase in temperature, but it is not just H2O that is lost during exercise. Electrolytes also go with water to our sweat glands which let us perspire.

What is an electrolyte?

Electrolytes are also known as salts, and they are very important to our bodies. Sodium chloride or table salt is a part of this group of salts but there are other ones as well like potassium and magnesium.

Your great tasting, go-to electrolyte powder just go even better! Each serving now has 100 mg magnesium, 250 mg potassium and 55 mg sodium - all important electrolytes.

Electrolytes play a role in water regulation at the cellular level. As you may know, cells have many parts, but it is surrounded by fluid. A large part of this fluid is water, but if the H2O concentration should be controlled.

If there is too little water in the system, the cells would shrink and die. One the other hand, too much of it can destroy the cells completely.

Electrolytes help to control the flow of water within and outside of the cell and it safeguards the cell from too much or too little H2O.

Water has some electrolytes especially in mineralized types, but sports and energy drinks are proven to have more electrolytes. This means that it can help you recover more electrolytes than simply drinking from a regular tap.

The sugar in energy drinks also helps with energy recovery as well as improving the taste of the drink. However, one major complaint of many people about sports drinks is their sugar content.

Most sports drinks on the market these days would have more than 10 teaspoons of sugar per bottle, which is an insane amount for one serving.

This is why more natural options like DrinkGT coconut water sports drink are becoming more appealing to the market.

One of the main advantages of these natural sports drinks is that their sugar content is relatively lower than your usual sports drinks.

This makes them far healthier since sugar is one of the major causes of obesity. Most of these natural sports drinks are also vegan and eco-friendly, and it is safe to drink by anyone.
